The Bombay high court has exonerated film actress Mamta Kulkarni in a case of alleged obscenity and quashed proceedings launched against her in a trial court.

The actress had posed semi nude on a cover of a film magazine in March 1995. A complaint filed by a reader contended that the picture created a lascivious effect on his mind.

The HC said the magistrate had erred and observed that though the magazine with Mamta's picture on the cover was circulated, that alone would not make her liable for committing an offence of obscenity.
